Academic Bio

Kristie Bradfield is a psychological researcher, author, and criminologist based in Western Australia. Her academic work sits at the intersection of psychology, law, and forensic science. She has a long-standing interest in how flawed systems can shape, distort, or fail to deliver justice.

She is currently completing her PhD in Psychology at Edith Cowan University. Her doctoral research explores how forensic, legal, and judicial professionals in Australia perceive and respond to challenges associated with the use of expert evidence, particularly when the underlying science may be unvalidated or unreliable.

Kristie’s research approach is both critical and applied. She is especially drawn to projects that investigate real-world impact, including how science is used in courtrooms, how institutional narratives shape belief, and how people make decisions under conditions of uncertainty.

She has worked as a research assistant on the Criminal Justice Review Project, contributed to interdisciplinary teams, and conducted independent research on eyewitness memory and retrieval-induced forgetting. Her Honours thesis was awarded top marks and examined the influence of body-worn camera footage on recall accuracy in eyewitnesses.

In addition to her research, Kristie offers tutoring, mentoring, and academic support in psychology, criminology, and criminal justice. She has a particular interest in helping students build confidence in research design, critical thinking, and academic writing. She especially enjoys working with students returning to study later in life or pursuing pathways into postgraduate psychology.

She holds a Bachelor of Psychology, Criminology and Justice, completed with a High Distinction average, and a Bachelor of Psychology (Honours I). In 2022, she received the SERCO Acacia Award for enhancing understanding of the experiences of Aboriginal people in prisons. In 2023, Kristie was selected as the graduate speaker for her cohort, in recognition of her academic performance, leadership, and contribution to the university community. She is currently undertaking a Doctor of Philosophy in Psychology.

Kristie is also a published writer and podcast host. She brings a unique blend of storytelling, empathy, and academic rigour to her work in both creative and research spaces.
